Beach days up north

Perfect plan for those windless days.

Lanzarote has its moods and so does the weather. When the northern winds take a break, it’s the perfect chance to enjoy some of the island’s northern beaches, often too exposed on gusty days. So when the air is still and the sky is clear, here’s your slow, sun-soaked plan for a perfect day.

Option 1: Famara All Day

Famara is Lanzarote’s surfer soul. A laid-back village with a wild beach framed by dramatic cliffs and views to La Graciosa island, it’s one of the most scenic spots on the island. Young crowd, surf schools, a long stretch of sand, and good food ranging from fresh fish and “papas arrugas” to casual burgers.

Bring a book from Espacio Fenómena, roll out your towel, and slow down. Just don’t forget sunscreen. It’s your only real job today!

Option 2: La Charca de la Novia, Órzola

A natural tidal pool of clear water, lava rock, and white sand. La Charca is as beautiful as it sounds. It’s shallow, sheltered, and magical at low tide. That said, it’s no longer a secret. On still days, it gets busy, and soft sandy space can be scarce. But walking among the volcanic pools or exploring life between the rocks is half the fun.

Park just off the main road; the entrance is easy to spot.

Another Northern Gem: La Playa de Atrás

Also near Órzola, this wide, quiet beach is stunning, especially at low tide when extra sandy spots emerge. It’s one of those places that feel untouched. You can even walk across to a smaller cove if the tide’s right. Some gentle waves roll in too, so if you surf, bring your board, you never know.

Break with a View: Mirador del Río

If the sun gets intense or the wind picks up, drive up to the Mirador del Río. You can enjoy a coffee with a panoramic view across to La Graciosa. It’s a César Manrique creation—blended beautifully into the cliffside. Entrance fee applies. Note: it closes at 17:00, so don’t leave it too late.
